Quake2World (Q2W) support for XFire ==================================== Fileinfo ------- version: 1.0 date: 06-27-2009 author: dfsp_spirit - airrocket.net/~spirit/ files: * q2w.ico - the Quake2World icon used by Xfire * q2w_xfire_games.ini - the Quake2World game support file for xfire * it_works.jpg - screenshot showing Q2W in the XFire menu and Xfire in-game active in Q2W. * q2w_install_path.reg - registry entry to define the Q2W path for XFire. * readme.txt - this readme file What's this ------------ These are Quake2World [0] game support files for the popular gaming tool XFire [1]. You can use them to make Quake2World show up in the 'Tools -> Launch... ' menu and other places in XFire. (Why) Do I need this download? ------------------------------ Atm (06/2009) Quake2World is not supported by XFire. You can use these files to add the support manually. You don't need these files if you already have Quake2World in Xfire. Ok, so how do I install this stuff? -------------------------------- 0) Make sure you have both Quake2World [0] and XFire [1] installed and working. (You do not need the XFire Plus Custom Game Support Client [2] atm! You will need it when full support for Quake2World has been added to XFire by the XFire team.) 1) Make a backup of your current 'xfire_games.ini'. That file can be found in your Xfire installation directory, e.g. 'C:\Program Files\Xfire\xfire_games.ini'. 2a) Make sure you read the first word of the next line properly! It says APPEND so don't overwrite the file or delete the stuff that's in there! 2b) Append the contents of the file q2w_xfire_games.ini (from this archive/directory) to your 'xfire_games.ini'. 3) Copy the item file 'qwc.ico' from this directory/archive in your XFire Icons directory, e.g. 'C:\Program Files\Xfire\Icons\q2w.ico'. 4) Add info about your Quake2World installation folder to the Windows registry so XFire can find the game folder: Edit the file 'q2w_install_path.reg' and define your Quake2World installation path in there, e.g. "InstallPath"="C:\\Program Files\\quake2world". Then double-click the file and answer 'yes' on the import prompt. Done, now verify that it works: Start XFire. If it doesn't check for new games automatically at startup, click 'Tools -> Launch -> Detect Games'. Quake2World should now show up in the menu at 'Tools -> Launch -> Quake2World' Now that I installed it, how do I use it? ------------------------------------------ Just start XFire. Quake2World should be listed under 'Tools -> Launch -> Quake2World'. You can also access XFire while in-game. Only basic things work, I can see no info on the servers, wtf? --------------------------------------------------------------- This needs to be implemented by the XFire team, not by us (see [3]). Please don't send them a suggestion to add Quake2World, the Quake2World team will do that! If you send them stuff now and we change important things afterwards, all their work will be in vain.
